Create a Systray message

TOP

The humble Systray has been around a while, but it’s still our friend.

A little nudge from the bottom-right corner, these are perfect for general messages whether they are about the LMS or not.

Here are some scenarios for which this message type would be useful:

  • General information
  • Invitations
  • Deadline reminders
  • Planned System Maintenance

Follow the steps below to create and save your Systray message.

1.

TIP! It’s a good idea to do a practice run in your staging environment first.

Log into your Eesysoft web application and navigate to the Help Item Overview by clicking on the Management box on the dashboard or using the menu bar on the left of the screen.

2.

Click on the ‘Create’ drop-down menu on the top left and select Systray message.

3.

TIP! The name you enter will be the heading of the message box so it’s a good idea to make it catchy.

Fill in a name, description and enter the message you want to display.

TIP! If you are including voting in your message, it’s handy to make the message box taller so the voting option doesn’t overlap your message text.

You can change the dimensions of your Systray message by changing the width and height values OR by dragging down the bottom-right corner of the message box.

Make it personal

You can personalize the message by using message templates which can be selected through the WYSIWYG editor.

To do this, go to Insert, Insert Template or use the icon on the Toolbar.

Select the Template you wish to add from the dropdown menu.

If you want to use the Template type of External content, you will need to know some information about its source. You can find this information by using your browser’s Inspect function on the External content you wish to display.

To find out more about the terminology used here and how to find the items you need, please refer to our Guide to Recognition Rules and Context Parameters.

You can also add cool stuff like links, pictures and videos to your message using the menu options or toolbar icons in the WYSIWYG editor.

You can check your message using the Preview option in the View menu.

A new window will open containing your message content and formatting for review.

4.

Now click on ‘Ok’ to save.

You will see that your Systray message has now appeared in the Help Item Overview list. When selected, you can view and edit the Systray message properties on the right.

5.

Now you need to set some properties for your message.

Required

Assignment: The message must be assigned to the relevant users. To do this, highlight your message in the Help Item Overview to see the message settings displayed on the right. In the Targeting section, you can use the drop-down or start typing to find a User Group, Role Category, Filter or Campaign for your audience.

Optional

Proactive Voting: If you want to see feedback from your users on whether your message was helpful, you can switch this ‘On’. The results can be found in the Proactive Support Report.

Validity: If your message is only relevant for a certain period of time, you can set a first and last active day for your message.

Labels: Used for grouping Content types, these Labels can also be used to filter Support Center topics. New Labels can be created through the EesyProducer.

Translations: If you wish to enter your message in more than one language, additional translations can be added here.

Congratulations! You have now created your Systray message. All you need to do now is connect it to your Context.
